Never Trust Witches

β€œCassie, are we lost?” I hear loud footsteps crunching on the rocks below.

β€œNo, I-I know exactly where we are going Bree.” I tell my friend trying to make it sound like it’s true but deep down I know it’s not.

I think Bree believes me because she doesn’t question it any farther.

β€œHiking is so tiring.” Raegan pouts plopping herself down on a big rock.

β€œCome on guys. Just a little more walking then I am sure we will find our way back to camp.” I say glancing at the dozen girls behind me. I seem to be the only optimistic person there because everyone groans.

β€œWait a minute, I thought you said we weren’t lost Cassie!” Bree practically screams at me her face turning pale.

β€œWell, I might have taken the wrong turn a couple hours ago......”

Everyone just sits in silence for a few seconds. Then high pitched screams fill the air.

"Ok guys stop screaming! Yall are the ones who made me lead the way so its not my fault that we're lost!"

Bree stops cying and looks at me with an icy stare.

"Ok mybe it is kinda my fault but you guys all wanted to go on a hike so here it is! And besides, lets look around and maybe we will find something that can help us okay so lets see here......"

I glance around the endless forest searching for something that can help us. Nothing. Just trees, trees, and more trees. Great.

"Hello my dears” a scratchy old voice calls from behind me. Turning around I see three women whose skin is a murky green wearing black cloaks drawn around their slender bodies. On top was a mop of black hair and a gray ripped pointy hat above them all. I know what they are. Witches.

I feel my body start to tremble knowing the other girls are doing the same.

β€œWhat do you want” I ask them scarcely seeing there black lips curl.

β€œOh nothing at all deary, we just thought you and your friends could use some help. You looked a little lost to us.” The middle one tells us snickering in sync with the other two.

Glancing at me terrified friends, I knew all they wanted to do now was to go home. Looking back at the witches, I stepped forward hands on my hips.

β€œHow can you help us?” I ask then curiously making sure to be carful at whatever I say. The middle one smiles at me. I feel a shiver fo down my spine.

β€œOh well we happen to know a spell to help you guys on the right path back to wherever you came from.” The leader smirks at me, my friends all whimper.

This seems to good to be true. There must be a price.

β€œOk then. If we agreed to this, spell, what is in it for you?” I question them, seeing Bree look at them so intently.

The witches look at one another sharing knowing looks.

β€œOh not much. Just one of you needs to stay behind and be our test subject for ANY of our new spells.” They all stare at me waiting for my answer. No. We can’t do this.

β€œNo thanks! We’re good. We will find our way back ourselfs so if you excuse us we will just be on our-β€œ

I’m cut off by the lead witch as she puts one of her thin fingers on my lips.

β€œTut tut, no more talking. We agreed to help you which is very generous of us, so if you don’t agree with us we will just have to keep you all, and none of you will ever see your families again.” Everyone gasps

Making the witches grin evilly.

Seeing all of my friends scared and hopeless I know what I must do.

β€œOk. I’ll do it.” I answer them closing my eyes sadly as I fell hot tears roll out.

β€œNo Cassie!” I hear Brees voice call from behind.

β€œSplendid.” The witch says. β€œShe will do. Now take those other dreadful creatures away at once.” The two witches nod and mumble a few words then snaps making my friends disappear.

β€œNo!” I yell and the witch grabs me.

β€œDon’t worry about them. They will be fine. All you have to worry about is yourself!” And she snaps her thin fingers and I feel myself melt away screaming for help and realize it’s no use as my world goes black.
