COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem about a sudden encounter with a wild animal.
This could be suspensful or wonderous, particularly in your description of the animal.
Prehistoric
Running.
Gasping.
Screaming.
Stumbling.
Breath hot as hell fire
paints the back of my neck.
Snarls loud and vicious
scrape skin from my ear.
Claws reach out.
Teeth snap shut.
I brave a look,
but nearly wet my pants.
Bumpy, armoured, scaly flesh
with beady malicious eyes.
It doesn’t tire
despite our race.
I am forever engulfed
in its looming shadow.
Its maw opens wide
and closes on my leg.
Pain jolts through my body
as I soar through the sky.
Crying.
Panting.
Bleeding.
Pleading.
A weekend away.
A trip of fun.
Never again will I vacation
at Jurassic Park.
