POEM STARTER
“That was the only lesson she ever needed to learn.”
Write a poem about anything you wish, but end with the line provided.
hold it together
she needs to be left alone,
needs space needs to think,
away from the suffocating prescence of
you and your smiles and blushing cheeks when you talk about
the other girl,
she cant breath when you’re near,
and once the figment of your warmth leaves
she’s left only with the frigid reminder of who she is
and who she can’t be
she cant be your friend but she cant not
its tearing her in half, ripping up the seams and pulling her sinews apart
but what else can she do?
she smiles and nods and sits and stews in her silence
her thoughts running circles around the image of your face in her mind,
wondering how you could possibly see yourself any other way than how
she sees you
you are the only thing making her happy anymore
and you hold the power to take it all away
swipe the rug out from under her feet
and run from her fantasies of the love you could build,
the life you could live
she’d rather she’d have never met you, never felt this,
never envisioned of all you could be,
all that you cant
she wants needs dreams,
one way or another,
to find peace,
in your arms, wrapped in your sweatshirt
or lying alone in the cold sheets of her bed,
she needs to feel better, with or without you
but she cant get you out of her head
and its killing her
just let her go you dont know you couldnt know
but youre killing her
