My Spot
_Based on my favorite running spot_
__
The route is simple, two miles along the winding road that passes by farms and the winery. These first few miles are always the hardest but once I cross the intersection and turn onto the continuation of the trail, I know I'm almost there. I then run beside yet another field in the direction of the Apple Orchard. Finally, I turn where the path becomes narrow and winds between two fields. Only a half mile left on this three mile route. Here is where I have to start picking up the pace, I want to use ever last ounce of energy, knowing my prize is just up the hill. The path indeend slopes slightly upward before flattening out and heading back downhill. Once I reach the top I begin sprinting, using the downhill slope and the tail wind to help. Then my watch buzzes and I can finally breath. I've arrived at my spot.
Total, the route is actually three and a half miles. I like numbers to be precise however, so I stop at an even three miles and walk the rest. It's my favorite place and a nice cool down. No one is around, it's just me, in wonder of the beauty of the scene around me. In my AirPods a worship song comes on that fits my mood exactly. In a word, it's peaceful. I twirl - literally twirl - reaching my hands up toward the sun that is just starting to go down, my chest still heaving from the exhilaration of my run. It's perfect.
