WRITING OBSTACLE

Over margaritas on the beach, two friends have a life-altering conversation.

Salted Wound

The waves crashed gently behind them as the sun dipped low. Mark sipped his margarita, then glanced at Drew.

"Ever think about how far you’d go for a better life?" Mark asked, voice too casual.

Drew chuckled. “Depends how many zeros we’re talking.”

Mark swirled his drink. “Let’s say… enough to erase everything. Debt. Regret. Even… people.”

Drew's smile faded. “That’s dark.”

Mark didn’t laugh. “Hypothetically, if someone made someone disappear—someone who deserved it—would you judge them? Or toast them?”

Drew stared at his glass, heartbeat loud. “Depends. Am I holding the same glass now?”

Mark smiled, slow and knowing. “You are. Cheers.”

They clinked.

The waves kept rolling.

Drew suddenly hated the sound.
