POEM STARTER
Write a poem through the eyes of a child, capturing their wonder at a fireworks display.
In the absence of elaborate and highly descriptive language, think how else you can capture an atmosphere of wonder.
Firework
People often ask you what is your favorite childhood memory
That is really easy for me to answer
I was getting starburst’s from the hotel vending machine
My heart fluttering excitedly as I waited to for the candy to drop
BOOM!! CRACK!! BOOM!!
My eyes quickly went to the window next to me
I stood on my tippy toes so I could properly observe
My eyes growing wide with excitement
Staring out with baited breath
I saw bright lights bursting in the sky
More powerful and colorful than any starbursts
It looked like real stars
Exploding for our amusement
I was so entranced I completely forgot my candy
But I didn’t mind
It’s much sweeter to unexpectedly witness magic
