The Forest Folk

It was morning…barely. The sun was just rimming the horizon, the sky still darkened. Elena strided out in her white dress, barefoot as always, swinging her arms as she threw dried flowers in the air. She sang a common folk song as she twirled in the golden rising sun. Elena did this ritual everyday to gain favor from the forest folk, whom she believed were real.

From time to time, she would talk about the forest folk, little elves that watched the forest, and constantly offer them little trinkets.

Every Saturday, Elena would make a stew and put bowls out for the forest folk and leave for them to consume.

Obviously, woodland creatures ate the stew rather than the forest folk, but Elena refused to believe that.

She always kept a gold coin in her pocket in case a crow were to fly above her, if a crow did, she’d immediately bury the gold coin under her feet and recite a common forest folk song to gain favor among the folk.

Elena was a very folly girl.
