Missile Drizzle
I get a text from my mother in the middle of class.
My phone’s in my backpack, so i reach out to it as i hide it behind a textbook. I slide it under my desk and open my phone. I freeze as i see the message. “there’s a missile from Isreal on its way to Beirut, get out NOW!” It says.
The teacher looks over to my side of the class and spots me looking down in shock. “Lauren, what are you looking at? Is that your phone i’m spotting?” I look up still taking the information in.
She steps closer to me and looks over my hands, my phone starts becoming darker showing that i haven’t touched it in quite a few seconds from the surprise. Miss LeBlanc takes the phone and looks at me in disappointment, and as she’s looking at my textbook to check whether i was focusing before i got the phone or not, another phone buzzes.
She turns and looks at Mathew, he has the same shock on his face, but he had the gut to say it out loud. “There’s a missile heading towards us, miss, we need to leave” he says tearing up.
A bunch of kids enter the class and scared and worried informing us that leaving is the way of escaping. Suddenly right at that moment, we hear a loud brown noise hover over us as our ears start to hurt from all the noise and screaming around us.
I grab my phone from the teacher as she runs towards her desk picking her stuff up to leave. I run to the board and start rushing everyone out of the class. “LEAVE LEAVE COME ON GET YOUR STUFF AND LEAVE WE NEED TO GO” i scream encouraging them to not give up on their lives.
The brown noise continues and my ears start hurt so bad that my head starts feeling heavier, luckily, Sarah notices my strange behaviour and sprays water over my face to wake me up to the world.
15 mins later…
A few people are left at school, as i pace and pace for in the hallway waiting for my mother to pick her phone up. A hand grabs me from behind hugging me tightly, it’s mum.
“What happened i got worried sick about you, you weren’t answering your phone and i have been waiting for the past 15 mins here you scared me the fuck out mum” i say shaking. She grabs my head in her hands crying trying to reassure me saying “hey hey calm down darling, i’m here now that’s what’s important”
