Different Languages

(These are multiple different poems)

In English we say:

You’ve changed

In poetry we say:

You are the waves to my ocean

Every time I feel your peace you come rushing at me once more

Wiping me off my feet

Leaving me to drown on my own

But when the calmness comes once again

I can’t help but think to myself that I’ll be strong enough to handle you next time

I’ll be more prepared

But I never am

Because you are just as unpredictable as the waves are in the sea

Forever changing

Forever knocking me off my feet

And never in a good way

In English we say:

Everywhere I look I see you

In poetry we say:

I see you in the sunsets of the sky looking down on me with your cotton candy colors

Showing me that the world is still beautiful even if you aren’t here with me

I see you in the morning coffee cups that I’ll never see you use

Forever collecting dust that I don’t have the heart to clean off

I see you in the absence of the couch cushions

Looking over to see one spot that should have someone in it but it will forever be empty

And I’ll look for you in the crevices of the cushions hoping I’ll find skeletons of our past hidden away from the light of our everyday life

In English we say:

I miss you

In poetry we say:

You are forever the missing piece to my heart

I am yet a puzzle that shall never feel completed until you walk through my door once more

Until I hear your laughter in front of me instead of hidding in the shadows of the depths of my deep dark mind

I will never be able to piece myself back together unless you come to me and pick up the missing pieces

Forever broken until you can help me find them and put them back together

These are inspired by Whitney Hanson. I highly recommend checking her out. Her poetry is breathtaking!
