POEM STARTER
Submitted by MBK
“Then suddenly… it’s over.”
Write a poem which ends with this line.
She
The walls around my heart,
they pound and pound and murmur.
They beat, trill, screech, scream-
they wobble, but they do not fall.
On the other side of the walls
awaits an opponent of skill.
She’s orange and thin,
she’s the most terrifying;
she ruptures organs, breaks skin,
but she never touches a thing.
She invades my mind,
while she overtakes my heart,
and I just let it happen.
She whispers in my ear,
compliments I hate, despise.
They’ll never be true, only lies.
She yells at me things I believe,
but somehow the lies are louder,
and they’re no longer compliments,
they’re complaints, truths, “_coward_.”
She blinds my eyes of reality,
but let’s me see a different view.
I focus on one end of life,
but she allows me to see the other,
how to fix my life gone askew.
She’s maniacal, evil, terrifying,
she can break me- anyone,
without touching a single thing.
She’s next to me, right there,
she’s whispering, beating, blinding,
like a heart, the sun, a liar.
I can feel her everywhere,
and yet, no one else can.
She’s beside me, behind me,
in front of me, choking me,
healing me, whispering to me-
She’s trying to destroy my life,
my luck, my 4 leaf clover-
She’s beating on my chest,
holding me captive to my mind-
And then, suddenly… it’s over.
