STORY STARTER

Power: the capacity to direct or influence the behaviour of others, or the course of events.

Introduce a character who holds a position of power, and write about how they use this power. Try to think outside the box of political/business/wealth -based power.

Danika.

Danika stood there; hovered over the mangled corpse of Danielle.

Danielle’s back was torn into violently. Her blood stained ribs were ripped out of her body, making wings. It doused the medical gown she lay on the floor in. Her lungs wrapped around the ribs, veiny and bloodied.

Danika knelt down next to Danielle, running a finger down her exposed lung. It was tender and slick, yet had a rough bump to it. She pushed it over, flipping it so she could see the ribs.

The bone was doused in uneven blood, parts more transparent than others. She grasped a rib in her hand, snapping it off from the rest with tremendous strength.

Danika ran a finger down the cut off rib, pushing down on her finger. A thin cut spread down the same finger. She had imagined it was someones neck.

She stood back up, wiping the cut on her medical gown. Danika bent over, her brown hair covering her face as a psychotic grin spread across her face.

“Thank you, Danielle.” She whispered quietly to the corpse. “You’ve secured my win. God bless you.”

In the next game, it was to fight for your own life. Four subjects in total had to be eliminated in order to pass. Yet, there was no time limit.

Danika’s poorly bandaged feet sunk into the hard, wet mud on the floor. She held the rib in her shaky hand as she approached the backside of Savannah.

Boldly, Danika struck her hand in front of Savannah, grabbing her mouth. She dug her fingernails into Savannah’s lips.

Savannah squirmed and squeaked, pulling at Danika’s hand desperately. But, Danika’s grip was unmatched.

Danika raised the rib to Savannah’s throat, causing panic to run through her body. In one last adrenaline rush, she grabbed Danika’s wrist, connected to the hand that held the rib.

They fought, Savannah desperately trying to push her hand away. Yet, despite her efforts, Danika had managed to have the rib touch the skin of Savannah’s neck.

She ran the rib across her neck, the blood spurting and running down her pale skin. The grip on her wrist slowly loosened, Savannah’s hand dropping.

Her body went limp against Danika, before she pushed her forward. She fell like a ragdoll, hitting the ground with a thud.

Danika gathered the saliva in her mouth, spitting onto the limp corpse of Savannah. It landed on the underside of her knee, dribbling to the right.

“Pathetic. It’s like you didn’t even fight me.” Danika jerked her chin up, shaking her head. She clutched the rib harder, hands shaking.

Reluctantly, she stabbed herself in the leg. Stifling a scream, she pulled it back out of her leg. A medium sized wound broke the skin of the top of her thigh.

Danika bent down to Savannah, tearing her hospital gown. Savannah’s upper arm was exposed from the tear.

She took the tear of the paper thin medical gown and tied it around the wound, bunching it on top. Danika grimaced as the gown touched her open wound, yet she pressed down on it.

Hayden lingered over Kristy’s body. Tears ran down her cheeks. Red hand marks were wrapped around Kristy’s neck. A few moments before, she had taken her last breath.

Hearing foot steps, she turned her head. “Danika? Oh- Danika!!” Hayden pushed up, stumbling and walking toward Danika. She wrapped her arms around Danika, embracing her. Danika didn’t hug back.

“You wouldn’t believe what happened! Veronica attacked and killed Kristy- so I killed her, thankfully.” Hayden ranted, before looking up at Danika. “Are you proud of me?” She asked.

Danika stared at her blankly. “Of course.”

Hayden smiled warmly, putting her head on Danika’s chest. “I knew you would be!” She held her tighter.

Danika’s thoughts were racing. Hesitantly, she wrapped her arms around Hayden too. Yet, she had other ideas. They embraced for a moment.

A moment.

Hayden’s face fell, moving her head off of Danika’s chest. She shook gently, pupils dialating. She coughed once, twice, blood spewing from between her lips.

Danika had sank the rib in between the line of the outside and Hayden’s skin. It ripped through her gown, blood dripping down her back.

Hayden had gone limp similar to Savannah, her arms fell down. Danika held Hayden tighter as her head fell down. She pressed a kiss to Hayden’s forehead. “I love you.”

Kameka rubbed her chin, leaning over her desk. Her gaze fell on Danika’s monitor. The words at the bottom of the sceen read, “Kill Count: 6”.

A smirk curled at her lips. “Guess the gas worked, huh?” Hands rested on Kameka’s shoulders. Alejandro was behind her, a grin on his face.

“Yup. Manipulate a depressed little girl into committing suicide, force her into the games, emit a gas on her and Hayden.. She is going to win. She has to.” Kameka pointed at the kill count.

Alejandro lightly massaged her shoulders. “Wanna bet?” He purred in her ear. “Fine.” Kameka tossed her hair to the side. “I bet that Danika will win.”

Alejandro gasped. “Not fair! You took the better option!” He let out a groan. “Fine.” He sighed. “I bet Danika will lose.”

“Whoever is wrong has to the rebirthing for the winner.” Kameka challenged. “God, I hate that spell. You really are cocky, huh?” Alejandro raised an eyebrow, that smirk on his face still.

“Yeah yeah, whatever.” Kameka dismissed him with a wave of her hand.
