Today in the cafeteria

You were throwing something away

Right beside the drink table

I was pouring water

Backs faced

Avoiding your presence

And for just a second

I looked at you

You were looking at me

Then you turned away

So did I

I went back to my table

My best friend stared at me in bewilderment

“What?” I asked

Suspecting something nasty crawling down my skin

Or someone making faces behind me

She replied

“That’s so wierd

You and him

Were perfectly in sync

Back to back

Not looking at eachother

Not even for a blink

And then- at the exact same time

You looked eachother in the eyes

Turned away from one another

Ablaze with suprise

As if connected

As if together

As if your meant for him

As if he’s meant for you

As if your supposed to be,”

But are we?

Me and you?

You and me?

Are we?

After everything you never said?

And after everything I did?

Soulmates?

Really?

Sounds silly

Doesn’t it?

But it doesn’t feel silly at all

Me just getting my hopes up
