POEM STARTER
Write a poem about the heart, focusing on its physicality and actions.
Avoid the kind of metaphors and language which are normally associated with the heart's emotional connection.
Hearts Don’t Break
Hearts don’t break.
They beat, pulse, keep you alive.
They give oxygen, blood, not mental pains.
Hearts don’t break, they don’t sprain,
they don’t shatter or scold or snap.
They keep you alive, beating and breathing.
Hearts don’t break.
They work in harmony with other organs
to keep the body healthy, alive.
They speed up in beat, when you skydive,
and when you see a certain someone.
Hearts don’t break. They don’t shatter.
They simply just beat and beat faster.
Hearts don’t break.
They are vital enough to not break.
They don’t break but make a trembling structure,
for if the heart does not break, it ruptures.
it makes the pounding in your chest thunder.
Hearts don’t break, they never will shatter.
But they’re guaranteed to wobble and stagger.
Hearts don’t break or sprain or snap,
but the mental image you have of a heart,
it hurts when you feel like a loser who’s behind by a lap.
Hearts don’t break, they’re not that fragile,
but they can make their beating hit your skull.
Hearts don’t break, they’re not that weak,
Afraid to admit it, but hearts aren’t that unique.
Hearts don’t break, they don’t screech like football players scoring,
I’m here to tell you, hearts are just like other organs, just beating and breathing.
