Hanging Tree

I thought I heard you laughing

I thought I heard you scream

That is then

This is now

I would never agree

Waited by the hanging tree

To see if you would show

I can’t be left to suffer

Or let you sink that low

Lay me out to dry

Leave me in the lie

I can’t hear you screaming

But I can see you die

What more I can handle

Is what it wouldn’t cost

To leave me out and bleed me dry

In the lions den

Wake me in the morning

When all that’s gone to rest

It was then

This is now

I would never dread

The motion I could handle

The notion I could lose

Lay me in the moment

Of what’s to choose

Between death

And dying

Laughing

And crying
