buried in the sand.

my hopes i had to throttle.

i pulled out the parchment,

tossed the glass into the sea.

not knowing what it meant,

unfurling the message,

reading the scrawled words.

heart beating like a tiny bird's,

trying to contain this rage.

Balling the paper up in my fists,

cheeks stinging from the tears.

Squeezing paper till knuckles white,

falling to my knees in the sand.
