STORY STARTER

Just as some humans are ghost-hunters, some ghosts are human-hunters.

Write a story in which the main character is a ghost who hunts humans.

A Ghostly Encounter

I’ve been told his heart is made of stone, all feelings are void to him except rage and infliction of pain. Marcel won’t get away this time.

Thankful for my invisibility, I stalk Marcel, watching how he walks with arrogance and a bloodthirsty smile.

Hastily, he enters his home and immediately grabs a bottle of beer, bringing it to his lips and drinking it heavily.

“Marcel…” a small child whispers. “May I go play with my schoolmates?”

Marcel smashes the beer bottles to pieces, rage fueling him.

“No! How insolent you are!” Marcel shouts, vibrating the house with his voice.

I watch dreadfully as the small child flinches in fear.

Now is my time.

I jump from my spot and take command of the wind. I allow it to rage within the house, causing shutters and papers to fly.

“You will not inflict anymore pain upon this child!” I voiced, my tone deep and powerful.

And with a slash of my wrist, I capture Marcel’s shaking hands, tying them with shackles.

I throw him out of his house into the hands of mud and shame.

“Please, haunt me no more!” He shouts. But I do not listen.

I call upon the prison guards with help of a fellow other ghosts.

Marcel is thrown into prison.

I go back to the small child, staring wide-eyed into the empty house.

“Child,” I say gently, “follow me.”

I allow myself to be visible as the child follows behind me. I bring him to a small household, run by a sweet lady named Alice.

“Well hello there sweet child,” she says. “Let’s get you cleaned up and then you can eat some pie I just pulled from the oven!”

I watch as Alice silently thanks me.

I’ve done my job today.
