Dethroned
Dead, their all dead. I watched as blood poured down their throats, I watched as they sunk to the ground, I watched it, but I couldn’t do anything. Dead, their all dead. My only true family, one that didn’t abandon me, Taylee, with her soft eyes and pale hair, Garrison, with his dark skin and easy smile, and Zella, with her wit and fire. Gone forever because of them, the evil that lurks on the kingdoms throne. All I feel is a growing numbness in my chest, too much lost, I can’t do it anymore, surrender is the only option and I know it.
“Silvia?” The words a whisper behind me and it takes me a moment to realize that’s my name, Silvia Lange.
I turn to find dark eyes staring back at me and I don’t answer, I just turn around again and sink lower to the ground, maybe if I sink low enough I’ll be able to sink peacefully into my own grave, I’m sure a lot of people would like that.
“Silvia, you have to get up,” again I don’t answer, “Silvia, you have to get up and lead, it was what you were born to do.”
This time I do answer, “I was born to die then? Is that it? Because that’s all this “revolution” will give us, certain death.”
The boy behind me is silent for a few moments and says, “Silvia, there’s news.”
I stare at the ground as he continues, “Kassie, you remember her don’t you?” He speaks to me like he would a child, but I don’t correct him.
Instead I snarl, “are you trying to remind me of the people we’ve lost? because your doing one hell of a good job.”
“No I’m not, Kassie isn’t dead, she’s alive and waiting outside the tent, just come see her.”
“Kassie is dead,” I say without a backward glance, “she got taken by Everette, I saw them drag her away to be tortured. She didn’t come out of the torture chambers.”
I can feel him shake his head, “she escaped, just see for yourself, please!” It sounded like a beg, but I can’t be sure, my grip on life is depleting with everything else.
A swish of a tent flap and I sigh, the boys finally left, but then a voice. The voice is soft and melodic, but when I turn around I see the fiercest warrior I may ever see. She looks the same as I remember her, golden skin, dark hair pulled away from her face, tall and regal, more of a queen then I’ll ever be, Kassie. And out of her mouth comes one word I barely register, “Silvia.”
Tears streak down my face, and I can’t stop the shakiness in my voice as I ask, “a-am I hallucinating?”
She bends down next to me, “no, I am alive I assure you. I also have a plan that won’t work without you.” She grabs my arm and lifts me to my feet, “it’s good to see you again old friend.”
My answering smile is watery and brittle, but it’s a smile, “same goes for you.”
Her face broke in a grin, “lets go get you your throne back. Your brother won’t stand a chance.”
I look at her and something I haven’t felt in a while, sparks in my chest. I almost don’t recognize it, hope, “let’s make Everette pay,” she would crush her older brother, Like he had crushed everything of hers.
The boy who was there before stands, and now I recognize him as Kassies brother, he stand beside Kassie and together they say, “long live queen Silvia.”
