Betrayal

The night casts a glow on his sparkling throne,

For you were his dog, and he had the bone.

He said you were crazy, that you must have known,

Now he wastes away the nights, desperate and alone.

You wished you could hate him for all he had done,

But you made your excuse, though there were none.

He earned your trust and then it begun

The promise and lies he slowly spun

But when distance grew wide, you’d wish it undone,

For you were the moon, and he was your sun.

To him back you’d drift, through the cycle you’d run.

But he doesn’t care, not one single bit,

Even if he matured, he never would quit.

With a clenched fist, a mark he’d commit.

He’d tear every wall until he was content,

Just to shatter the peace you’d so carefully knit.

The sanctuary you built, where he wouldn’t fit,

An attempt to escape from his arrogant wit.

You once dreamed that he loved you, but that was just it,

A dream that he crushed, every piece, every bit.

But return to him? No, never again.

I will not be who I was back then.

I will not Chase that dream, a fairytale’s end,

An end to the torment of just being a friend.

Not one “I love you”, not even pretend,

A curse that he’ll die with, to the bitter end

For it was I alone who saw something in him.
