POEM STARTER
Mysteries of the Night
Whether something natural and beautiful like the stars, or something more sinister, write a poem that focuses on things that are most prominent at night.
The Moon And I
Some people might go to bed
As soon as the moon hides to sun
But not me.
When the light from far away
Shines through my window,
Traces silver patterns on my skin,
Draws unseen maps to places
That only exist at night
I follow them.
The moon smiles at me,
Warming the cold corners of my heart,
Filling the empty spaces with quiet whispers.
The stars, scattered like forgotten wishes,
Blink secrets only I can hear.
They shine brighter than the sun ever could—
Not because they are stronger,
But because they have to fight the darkness to be seen.
I count them, one by one,
The same stars that watched over ancient creatures,
That listened to lost souls long before me.
For you, I would catch every single one,
Hold them in my hands,
Let them burn my skin if it meant I could keep them.
Maybe a shooting star will fall across the sky,
A brief flicker of hope in the endless night.
I’ll close my eyes and wish—
For something I will never have.
While others dream of the sun,
I sit beneath the moon,
Spilling my heart into the silence,
Because only he understands.
He knows what it means to be overlooked,
To be nothing more than a reflection,
To exist only when the world decides to notice.
The moon only shines with the light the sun lends him.
He can cast shadows,
But he has no light of his own.
When his time finally comes to shine,
Nobody cares enough to admire.
But I do.
As long as it takes for everyone else to notice my friend,
I will.
Because he gives me love,
And now it is my turn to help him glow.
To whisper to the night
That he is not alone.
To trace his silver light
Back into the sky,
So even when the world turns away,
He knows someone is watching.
I lift my hands to the stars,
Let their glow spill through my fingers,
And promise him—
Even in the darkest nights,
Even when no one else looks up,
I will.
