Consider the length of your story. It does not need to reach the max word limit to include a twist. One sentence can be enough. Consider, too, that a twist is not always a revelation, but can be subtle.

Let’s speak on being enough
And you making me believe that I was
When I wasn’t
And I don’t think I ever was
Your words doing something to me
But your actions burning me more harsher then the sun
Now all I see is red
The anger flows through me
Turns me into someone that I don’t want to be
Why can you mean what you say
You like your games
But I don’t have time to play
