For the Love of Horses
Debbie finishes brushing her hair at the vanity and places her silver brush down before sighing and beginning the slow process of heading downstairs.
“Why do you have such a glum look on your face Debbie Lee? You should be excited, a foreign prince has chosen to visit our ranch.”
Debbie Lee just rolls her eyes and heads out to tend to the cattle before their guest arrives.
She does her daily routine and pats a well groomed cow on the flank to signify the end of her chore. The cow steps away to reveal a smartly dressed man standing proud with his hands on his hips.
“Fine bunch of cattle you got here.” He says with a fake Californian accent.
“I’ll take it you are his royal highness?” Debbie Lee makes no attempt to curtsey.
“Guilty!” The Prince puts his hands up and laughs.
“What do you want with a ranch anywho? Don’t you have some Princess to swoon over?”
The Prince studies Debbie Lee for a moment with a soft smile. He clears his throat allowing for his regular voice to come out.
“I’ll be honest, this was my fathers idea. He says this ranch breeds the most beautiful horses in the world. I would love to see that.”
Debbie Lee purses her lips together before turning to head away, she motions with her head for the Prince to follow her and she leads him to the stables.
The second he sees how beautiful the horses are he runs to them and strokes one on the nose.
“Did the same thing when I saw my own horse.” Debbie Lee smiles as the Prince fawns over her favourite mare Margaret Louise. She smirks to herself as it dawns on her no matter where he came from, what throne he belongs on, his love of horses reminds her he’s a human just like her.
