Shadows Of Deception
(I thought I would get people’s opinion on my books so this is part one of it- chapter one)
Chapter 1 - The Assignment

In a small, cluttered room suffused with the soft glow of a single desk lamp, Elizabeth sat hunched over her notebook, her mind lost in a labyrinth of thoughts. Beyond the dusty window, the city's heartbeat echoed in the night, oblivious to the impending storm brewing in its midst. She tapped her pen against the worn pages, a nervous rhythm punctuating the silence.
The door creaked open, and Gabriella entered, a breath of fresh air in the stale room. With a casual flick of her hand, she tossed a file onto Elizabeth's desk, the sound jolting Elizabeth from her reverie.
"Got the latest assignment," Gabriella announced, her voice tinged with a hint of excitement. "And it's a doozy."
Elizabeth looked up, her eyes flickering with curiosity as she reached for the file. Flipping it open, she found herself confronted with a collage of images and documents, each one a piece of the puzzle they were about to unravel.
"We're going after George," Gabriella explained, her tone grave as she slid the curtain back. "He's gone rogue, Liz. He is blind to power. Last night he went after a precious wayward artifact. And he's got a crew." They both winced as the light shone into the room.
Elizabeth's heart sank at the mention of her younger brother's name. George, once the mischievous kid she had sworn to protect, was now a shadowy figure lost to the allure of darkness. She had tried to steer him away from this path, but he had slipped through her fingers like sand. His connections to the black market made him a prime target for espionage from all sides in the region.
"We have to bring him in," Elizabeth declared, her voice determined. "Before things get out of hand”, she sighed at the thought of seeing her brother now after all this had happened.
Gabriella nodded in agreement, her expression sombre. "We leave first thing tomorrow. We'll need to gather intel, assess the situation, and come up with a game plan. George isn't alone, Liz. He's got some heavy hitters backing him up."
Elizabeth clenched her jaw, a surge of resolve coursing through her veins. She had taken an oath to protect the innocent, to uphold justice in a world teetering on the edge of chaos. And now, she would face her greatest challenge yet: confronting her flesh and blood, corrupted by greed and ambition.
As the city slumbered, Elizabeth and Gabriella prepared for the battle ahead, their minds sharp, their hearts heavy with the burden of their mission. For in the shadows of deception, only the fearless dared to tread, and only the strongest emerged victorious though scarred.
