You are the darker parts of life

And the enchanted forests where fairies hide

You are the beating of my heart

And the expansion of my lungs

You are the everpresent fire

And the ember held in thongs

You are the whisper of wind on a cold winter day

You are the cries of the sky when it sends down rain

You are the reason I hate everybody

But treat them all the same

You are the reason I write poems

And the reason I hate my brain

You are the mosquitoes in my tummy

And the thing that drives me insane

You are the reason I nearly jumped

And you’re what saved me that day
