This was supposed to be a simple trip, he thought to himself as he paddled furiously. An Airbnb on the lake in a remote area, what could go wrong? His view is blurry as wind throws water on him. He blinks rapidly, trying to wipe away water with the elbow of his yellow jacket while still trying to row. But it seems to be no use as the wind continues to roar and make the water unpredictable. He chances yet another look and they’re even closer than before. He knows he won’t be able to outrow them. He could either keep rowing and hope a miracle happens or he can throw himself in the water. Yes, he knows he can’t swim and yes there is a very real chance of him dying here and now. So he jumps.
