fate
I walk down Creek Road along the cracked sidewalk from the earthquake a few years back. My feet liften and landed in a steady pace. My long, straight, blonde hair draped along my back. The weather had been beautiful. A sunny warm day with a light breeze. I wore jeans with a long oversized t-shirt tucked into my pants. I finally reached the cafe that i always stopped at before work.
“Hi! How can I help you?” the woman at the front desk asked me.
“Can I get a mango pineapple smoothie?”
“Yep. that’ll be three dollars even.”
I handed the women my debut card and she ran it through the machine. She handed it back along with my smoothie and i went to sit down. I sat down in a booth in the back of the room alone. I drank my smoothie and scrolled on my phone when a hand touched mine.
“I thought you looked lonely so i brought you this.”
I looked up, a man looked down at me. His brown hair shagged over his tan face. I could barely see his blue eyes peek through his hair to look at me. He pushed a plate with a bagel to me and sat down.
“Thank you.” I smiled awkwardly,” how much do i owe you?”
He laughed which made me feel stupid,” You don’t owe me anything,” he winked,” its my treat.”
I could feel his body against mine since he was sitting beside me.
“Look, i think your gorgous,” he said.
“thank you.” i said without looking at his face.
He grabbed my chin and tilted it up so i had to look at him. My cheeks turned a bright pink and i couldn’t help but smile.
“You come to this cafe every morning, so do I. You always wear your hair down. And you always have those black and white nikes.”
“They match everything” I laughed.
I looked up at the clock. I was late for work,” I-I have to go, im gonna be late.” I gathered my stuff and stood up. He grabbed my hand and looked at me.
“Let me walk you to work.” He asked.
I bit my lip, knowing it would make me more late.
“Please?” He looked at me with those eyes like a lost puppy.
“Fine” I smiled and we walked down the street hand in hand. Suddenly my little trip to get a smoothie every morning became the way i met my soulmate.
