when night comes i feel a sort of void. the darkness overwhelms my senses. i lose track of the path im following. but if i look closely. and take a moment to focus. i can see a small light leading me.
yes with might comes darkness, but also stars.
i wonder if god knew what i was thinking when he put that star there. i wonder if he knew i needed a star to guide me. i often get driven off the path which i must follow. the stars can lead me back when i am found in the depths of darkness.
when i feel lonely, a star always seems to find me. it finds me and takes me back to a place that is safe. when i feel like i don’t matter, a star always seems to find me. it finds me and makes me understand that i am enough. when i feel like nobody needs me and tha i would be better off gone, a star always seems to find me. it finds me and it shows me how important i am, even in the darkness.
i aspire to become a star. i aspire to be able to show someone their worth. i aspire to help lead them back on the right track. i aspire to shine even in the midst of darkness. i aspire to help peoples decide to stay. i aspire to give hope. i aspire to give strength. i aspire to give courage. i aspire to become a star.
no matter how dark it may seem, there are always stars, though sometimes, they’re just hidden behind the clouds.

He narrowed his eyes at her, laughing nervously. “What do you mean you’ve killed someone?” “I’m dead serious babe. We need to get moving, pack your bags.” She shuffled around their room grabbing clothes and stuffing them into a small duffle bag. Adam stood there and watched her. He was confused, he’d never seen her act like this. “Hey what’s going on?” he said. She payed no attention to him, she was breathing hard and he thought he saw a tear fall feom her eyes. She knelt on the ground and took in a deep breath, freezing in place. Adam walked over, kneeling down beside her. “Hey,” he tilted her chin up,” what is going on? You can tell me.” She looked up at him, tears piled in her eyes, cheeks red. She was breathing hard, her chest rising and falling without rhythm. She wiped away her tears with her sleeve and stood up, brushing herself off. “I’ll explain everything in the car, let’s go.” Adam decided to trust her and he followed. They ran down the stairs, locking the door behind them. Their car was a black honda civic, brand new. Elyza threw their bag in the back seat and they drove off. “There’s things i haven’t told you.” She said hesitantly. “Like what?” “Your being hunted. People, bad people are trying to find you.” “Why?” “Your father.” Adam shifted positions, clearing his through. He never knew his father, all he knew was that he left before he could remember anything. “Your father is a bad person adam, he hunts innocent children, experimenting on them. A group of rebels can’t seem to stop him, so their next best idea is to find someone he loves and kill them.” “But my father doesn’t love me, he doesn’t even know me.” “That’s what i tried to tell them.” “How do you know about this?” Elyza glances at him then focuses back onto the road in front of them. “Your father took my sister, torchered her, and sent her back, scars and bruises covering her body. She was 7 Adam, 7. Ever since then i’ve made it my mission to catch him, joined these rebels. Until i found out their new plan. Today a woman followed me home trying to find you, I pulled over and she followed. I got out of my car and so did she. I don’t know how she found out about you but she did. She came up to me and told me she knew my secret and that i needed to stop protecting you. She pulled a gun to my head Adam. So i show her. it was self defense but-“ She pulled over to the side of the road and started sobbing. Adam grabbed her, holding her tight to his chest. “It’s okay, It’s going to be okay I promise. Nobody’s going to know, I’ll keep you safe, i swear.” Adam muttered. Something rammed into their car and they looked back. The hunt wasn’t over.
Carter ran into the building, covered in bright red flames. His suit was rubbing against his neck, there would probably be a red mark after this. The air was thick and hot. His suit protected him from the flames, not the heat the flames put off. He rushed through each room, inspecting to see if any people were trapped or needed help getting out.
He ran into what seemed to be an office. A woman was unconscious on the floor. Carter knelt down beside her and gently shook her to see if she would wake up. He checked her pulse, she was still alive. He threw her over his shoulder and ran out the building.
Fire trucks were hosing off the two story house. The flames grew smaller and finally disappeared completely.
Carter set the girl down gently across the stretcher and paramedics rolled her into the ambulance. Carter felt almost committed, he climbed in after them and sat beside the woman lying unconscious.
“Is she going to be okay?” Carter asked the paramedic working on the girl.
“Inhaled a lot of smoke, a few level 2 degree burns but nothing too serious, she should be fine.” The woman replied.
Carter rubbed his hands down his face, it was 2:00 in the morning. Carter lived for these late shifts, that’s when all the action happened.
The ambulance pulled into the Emergency Room entrance. Carter helped the doctors roll her into the hospital. They gave her oxegyn and hooked IV’s up to her forearm, then carter was escorted out of the room.
About an hour later they called Carter back into the room.
“Do you know this woman?” One man asked.
“No, i don’t.” Carter replied.
“Your a fireman, yes?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“She should wake up any moment. I have to run but somebody needs to be here when she wakes up. Will you stay in the room please?”
Carter nodded and the doctor was off. Carter barely had time to sit down before the girl woke up. She took a quick inhale and tried to sit up but was unable to.
“Where am I?” she panicked.
“Hey, hey it’s okay,” Carter comforted her,”your safe i promise. you were in a fire, I got you out of there.”
She blinked.
“What’s your name?” Carter asked.
“Brynn.” She mumbled. She was scared, she wasn’t supposed to be here, this was bad, really bad.
Carter leaned in and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear,” Your okay ma’am, i promise.”
Brynn gulped. He saved her. She didn’t think he realized that he saved a criminal. A law breaker. Everything that goes against what he is. This was bad. This was really bad.
He grabbed my forearm, pulling it towards his chest. I gasped and stumbled towards him, as he interlaced our fingers. I really needed to leave. We started walking into a restaurant where they sold only seafood, and I was slightly allergic to crab. Not enough to harm me, but enough to give me a rash. We sat down and before the waitress could even take our orders, i smelt the crab. I stood up and excused myself to use the washroom. He grumbled in anger but didn’t say another word. I walked until he could no longer see me, and as I ran around the corner I bumped into someone. “Oh, sorry!” I shouted and started to leave again, until he grabbed my arm, sending a tingle down my spine. In a good way. “And where do you think you’re going?” He flirtatiously asked. “I, uh, the bathroom.” i stuttered. He chuckled. “That’s not the bathroom, and we both know it.” I moaned inside my head. Can’t i just leave? “Okay fine. I need to leave. My date,” I pointed to my table where BLANK was sitting “is, uh, holding me hostage.” I fibbed. It was entirely a lie. He didn’t let me out of his sight at the gas station. He looked at me from the corner of his eye, lifting his eyebrows. “Okay, okay. I just am really not enjoying it to be honest.” I shrugged. “Mmmm,” he smiled. “Maybe you should join me,” I was speechless. “I’m Cole, by the way.” he held out his hand. I took it. “Jade.” He smiled. I don’t know why, but it made my stomache flip. I had an urge to kiss his smirk, to run my hands through his dark brown hair and down his back, over his arms. I stopped daydreaming and gagged at myself. What was I thinking? One, he definitely had a girlfriend. Two, I did not go on this date to go man-hunting. Gross. Never. Right? Then what was this guy- cole - doing? What was his motive? And why did i suddenly want to kiss him every time I found his lips? “I-I um-“ I started but couldn’t think of a way to get out of this. He trailed his hands up my arms and rubbed them in a comforting way. I felt almost safe with him. Almost. “Come on, I’ll take you back to my place, I won’t let him touch you.” Cole insisted. On one hand I wanted to go with him, discover this new feeling and find out what cole has in store for me. In the other, I couldn’t leave my date behind, could I? Against everything my gut wad telling me I nodded and he took my hand showing me outside. His ride was a motorcycle. A big black and red motorcycle that looked like it would go fast. I casted a glance at him. He smirked,” Hop on.” he said and i did. He handed a black helmet though i noticed there was only one. “you sure you don’t want it?” i offered but he shook his head “Naw. It’s part of the fun.” He winked,”hold on!” I wrapped my arms around his waist tight. I was terrified but i felt safe with him. Something about him told me I would be okay. As we drove off my previous date ran out the back door that Cole and I had exited from,” Get back here Jade!” He yelled and i flinched as if he was right next to me,” What do you think your doing?!” He cussed and suddenly i couldn’t hear him anymore, Cole had took a turn and my old date was now out of sight. “Thank you.” I muttered, unaware that cole could move heard me. “I have your back princess.” I couldn’t see Cole’s face but i figured he smirked after that phrase. Though I was weirdly attracted to the smirk.

“I was just trying to be what you wanted.” Anelie muttered in a newer, lower voice. Zayan had never seen this part of her. It was dark, he couldn’t seem to find that little light inside of her that had been their earlier. “This is not what I wanted.” Zayan said, examining her new look. “You wanted bad, I can be bad.” Anelie remarked and laughed,” Rory!” She called. Her voice echoed through the courtyard. A tall man with thin arms and legs wobbled over. When he reached Anelie he stood tall, arms straight to his side, and stayed frozen. “Gather up the soldiers, it’s time.” Anelie commanded and the little guard ran off. “Time for what?” Zayan asked. No response. “Anelie!” Zayan grabbed her chin so she could look at him,” Time for what?” Anelie looked up at him with this face. It was hurt, like someone had hurt her, she looked it pain. That expression quickly changed. “Time for war.” Was all she replied with and she ran off to meet with the soldiers. The soldiers were in a neat, straight line. Dark green uniforms were fitted on each of them neatly. “Let’s go!” Anelie yelled and they marched off into the horizon. Zayan watched as they marched off. He couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of anelie. He didn’t know what had happened to her. Why she decided she had to change. She was perfect the way she was. Perfect and beautiful. And most of all she was his. They loved each other. And then she got this idea that she had to change. A sharping pain pierced through Zayans side. He sucked in a deep breathe and collapsed to the floor. His vision blurred until all he could see was Anelie running toward him. “Zayan!”
“I am not a toy to be used.” Kira stated calmly. She hated the feeling of being played with. Like she was a brand new toy and toddler just got for their birthday. Kayd looked at her apologetically. Did he really make her feel like he had been using her? He never thought of her as an object to use. She was his world. Everything that led to this moment was because of her. She saved him. “Kira,” Kayd took a step closer, inspecting the beautiful curves of her body. Admiring her dark brown eyes that started back at him.” I never wanted to hurt you.” Kira stared into his eyes, Judging his face. His jaw structure was a perfect straight line, a square almost. He brown hair shagged just above his eyebrows so you could barely see the freckles on his forehead. Of course she knew about his freckles. She knew just about every flaw Kayd sees in himself. Kira liked the freckles on his face, scattered perfectly. She had thought that if they ever had children they were to be the most beautiful kids because of his traits. Maybe Kira had been stuck in Hell for to long. She forgot what it felt like to be treated right. He saved her. “Kira,” Kayd stepped even closer, he hands now cupped around her face,”I love you.” He studied her face. Her reaction was calm and complete. A faint smile drew upon her face,”I love you too.” Kira wasn’t one to show her emotions well. Though she had plenty of them. Kira felt as if she needed to stay independent and not bother anyone else with her burdens. This worried Kayd since he could always tell when something was wrong. Even when nobody else saw the subtle look in her eyes when she was upset, Kayd did. Somehow he noticed every part of Kira that most didn’t. She liked knowing that when no one else cared, he was there for her. Kayd looked deep into her eyes. He couldn’t not focus on her beautiful brown eyes. It was like staring into a void, drawing you deeper and deeper each time you tried to look away. But Kayd never wanted to looke away from her eyes. Against all the bad things Kira conjured up in her mind, she kissed him. She propped up onto her tippy toes so she could reach his perfect plump lips. He kissed her back, grabbing her by the waist and lifting her off the ground. Kira never wanted to be released from his arms wrapped around her. She felt safe when he held her. Something she hadn’t felt in a while. Kayd thought he could get used to this. Holding her in his arms. He was larger then her by quite a bit as she was a petite girl. He liked that she was small so he could fit her into his arms. He liked that she felt safe and comfortable with him after everything she’d been through. After they broke out of the kiss they just looked into each others eyes. After all, it was what they both admired the most about one another.
Sophie’s eyes shut and her heart stopped beating. Her souls escaped from her body for a break. “Hello again.” she said in a peaceful voice. “Hello little sophie, come sit with me for a moment.” Death gestured her to his lap. “Alright but i can’t stay long, my mother will worry.” Sophie made her way to death and death cradled her in his lap like a newborn baby. Sophie felt safe in deaths arms, she felt at peace. She wished so badly she could stay with death forever. Death always had to send her back to life. Life was cruel to her, cursing her with this condition. She hated that they couldn’t find out what was wrong with her or how to fix it. She hated that she couldn’t live how other people lived. Life must really hate her. Life blessed others with gifts like talents and good health. Sophie wasn’t as lucky. It worried her mother, her mother was always terrified of the day sophie didn’t come back. Death would never let sophie say long, he had to send her back. “Death?” sophie whispered. “Yes sophie.” “Why can’t i stay with you?” “Oh my sweet, sweet sophie, i wish very much you could stay with me but you can’t. It’s not your time sweet girl. Don’t you want to live? See more?” Sophie shook her head softly,” There’s no point.” Death held her closer,” My dear child, you are a survivor.” Sophie shook her head again, she may only be eight years old but she was smart,” you can’t survive something unidentifiable.” Death tilted his head subtly, he loved this girl with all he had. She was his best friend, like a daughter to him. Death wished he could protect her from Life. Take her away from this curse. Take away the pain. He had no control of when she came to stay with him permanently. He just hoped she would be okay without him. “It’s time to go now sophie.” he said in a soothing voice. “fine.” she replied. Her soul found its way back to her body and she took in a deep inhale. Sophie stayed perfectly still and calm. Her mother looked down at her crying. “You got to stop doing that Sophie,” she laughed,” it scares me.” her mother said. “Mamma why can’t i just let go. Why won’t death take me in?” sophie asked. Her mother looked down at her, tears still rolling down her cheek. “ Oh sophie i’m so sorry.” Her mother cradled her head in her hands and kissed her on the forehead. “I just want it to stop mommy. I want the pain to stop. i want it all to go away.” sophie pleaded. “I know baby, i know.”
“be careful out there”. those were the last words my momma said to me. those words replay in my mind over and over. i’m lying in a hospital bed on anti-depressants. i was diagnosed with depression a month ago. it makes my mind go blank and cold. i feel empty without him. him. he’s the reason i feel this way. it’s his fault! he ripped everything away from me and im left alone without a heart to keep me going. i have no motivation to do antything. he ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped on it it and then shoved it back in my chest. my heart never fully healed but i know it wont. i’m stuck like this. trapped and helpless and alone. i want to let go but i can’t. you can’t just let go of life it’s not how it works. no matter how much he hurt me i can’t escape. i miss his hugs. where he would just hold me and never let go. we could just walk and talk and feel comfortable with each other. the way we could call all night and never have a silent moment. or i could fall asleep on a call and he wouldn’t hang up. i never knew why he wouldn’t hang up but i miss it. i miss the sound of his voice. i miss his laugh. i miss his hugs. i miss his eyes. i miss him. i want him back so bad but he’s just a want. not a need. right? if he was just a want than why do i feel this way. i can’t go on without him. he was a part of me. i never understood how he could just leave me like that. i never could understand how he could be happy with anyone else. but obviously he can. all i can hear is my mommas voice echoing in my head,” be careful out there.” i began to sob, tears flooding down my cheeks,” im sorry momma, im so sorry.”

it all started with a rumour. i loved my boyfriend so much, i would do anything for him and i thought he would do the same thing. the key word there is loved. past tense. people spread around rumours saying he was a player, he was cheating on me. of course i didnt believe it, he loved me. right? wrong. he was cheating on me, with a girl who was prettier then me, funner then me, apparently better then me. i cried for a while wondering how i woukd go on. then i realized he was a jerk who broke my heart. but now i have come to realize, i shoukd be mad, i shoukd be sad but its okay. it made me realize that he wasnt the one for me. that was okay because one day ill find the one who will treat me like a princess, who will love me more then i love him. thats all i want, us that too much to ask? im just a teenager after all. i have plenty of time right? i just want to experience teenage love before i run out of time. i will try to be patient, be kind and loving. i will try not to care when things dont work out. but the truth is i’ll always be a little hurt under this smile. and thats okay. rumours spread. they enhance. most rumours arent true, theyre cruel lies. this one was true. it wasnt a cruel lie, it was just cruel. and no matter how much i wish it was just a cruel lie. it wasnt. and eventually i had to accept that and ultimately grew because of it. i learned that someday i will be someones whole world and they will be mine ❤️ the time will come.
