‘I hear You in the silence’
— A vilanelle
I hear You in the silence,
in the stillness of the night.
Your voice, waves to
a moonlit shore,
Your beauty shining more.
I listen for Your whisper,
Lord, I listen for Your light.
I hear You in the gentle rain,
Your Word is soft and sleight.
You speak a calm that I adore,
You cause my eyes to pour.
I hear You in the silence,
in the stillness of the night.
You’re with me in the breaking sky,
I hear You in the birds on high.
I feel You in the peaceful morn’,
I hear you in the coming storm.
I listen for Your whisper,
Lord, I listen for Your light.
And when I fall, Lord,
you say, “Rise.”
I hear You in the brokenness,
I listen here, God, more and more.
I hear You in the silence,
in the stillness of the night.
And when I flee, God,
you say, “Fight.”
I hear you in the fire and wind,
Your voice is all I long for.
I listen for Your whisper,
Lord, I listen for Your light.
I know You hear my every cry,
You’ve slain the grave
and gave me life.
Should this peace
become a plague or war,
I will rest in You, my King, my Lord.
I hear You in the silence,
in the stillness of the night.
I listen for Your whisper,
Lord, I listen for Your light.
