I grew up in a old, run-down coal mining town

It was nicknamed the dust bin of the East

The sun never shined. We all had permanent frowns

Something was missing. Nobody felt complete

Years went by through the dark and the grey

Nothing ever changed, to all of our dismay

But then something happened, my tears began to run

As light shined upon my skin, a small gift from the sun
