The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
The Burden Of Memory
You’re heavy.
Something I’d never say to you.
I carry you as an obligation, a nessesity, a privilege.
Something I never wanted to take upon my shoulder,
But something I would never choose to shrug off.
I hate to have only you,
But wish you’d never leave me.
If the day were to ever come,
Should the fate I dread be true,
I would sigh in peace,
Be light of foot and calm of mind,
But I’m sure in the loss of you again I’d sit empty.
The knots in my back missing the pleasure of the misery of carrying you with me.
The hands free of weight, weighed down all the more from the ghost of that forgotten.
Shame should swell in my heart if I am ever relieved of this burden I’m privileged and cursed to carry.
