Eye Of The Storm
Hannah looked out her bedroom window at the dark clouds moving in a circular motion. Lighting flashed, lighting up the sky in blue and white. She waited a moment for the crackling thunder, and she was not disappointed. Loud roaring filled her dark room making her squirm with excitement. She rushed out of the room and down the stairs, she saw her mom cooking dinner in the kitchen but didn’t stop to say hi.
“Honey, where are you going?” Hannah was at the door when her mom asked.
“No where.”
“Come here.” Her moms voice was obviously suspicious. Hannah walked to the kitchen door and peered in.
“Yes?”
“What are doing.”
“I was just going to stand out in the storm.”
“Ok, just where a jacket.”
“Yes ma’am.”
Hannah had no intention of wearing a jacket, in her opinion it ruined the experience. She left the house barefooted and in a red “45-47” t-shirt and jean shorts.
The moment she stepped outside her silky blonde hair was pressed to her scalp with drops of rain and her clothes became much heavier on her body. The water felt nice and cool on her skin and the lighting made her feel like she was living in another world.
She stared at the moving clouds as she spreaded her arms like a bird. As she watched as a small funnel formed above her head, slowly getting closer to her. She heard the front door to her house open.
“HANNAH! GET BACK INSIDE!WE’ER UNDER A TORNADO WATCH!” Her mother continue to shriek nonsense the she couldn’t hear over the storm. The forming tornado was now so close the Hannah could have reached up and touched it. Her mother ran out ti grab her but she wasn’t moving, just gazing at the wonderful sight. Dirt and grass started flying from the ground, followed by random debris.
“Hannah we need to get to cover!”
“It’s okay mom. Just enjoy it.”
Soon enough they were in the eye of the storm, right smack dab in the middle of the tornado. The rain stopped and the sun shone down on them, Hannah’s mom refused to look, she was a huddled up ball in the ground.
“Mom look, it’s beautiful.” Hannah cried with joy. The sound of houses being moved filled the air and soon enough the eye was passing them on. Hannah would have kept on standing but her mother pulled her down so they were both laying flat on their stomaches. The harsh winds passed but Hannah’s mother still refused to let her stand.
It took them a moment to get their bearings together but when they did they finally noticed that their house was completely flattened.
“We would have died if we were in there.” The mom muttered under her breathe. “You saved us both.”
“Just had a feeling.”
