Write a story or poem that could be titled 'High Above the City'.

High Above the City

The swing groaned

Its rusty chains making a kind of sad, rattling sound

I watched the city from the swing, a blur of motion and noise

And it felt like the swing was trying to keep up, like it was trying to tell a story

I often wondered what happened down there

Why the whole city was in chaos and why was i brought up here to hide

These are questions i constantly trouble myself with

"This is it" she said, i have to find out...

She kicked off the swing, her stomach lurching as her feet left the platform. For a second, hanging there, she thought

"What am i doing?" But the question was lost in the rush of it all, the fear and excitement mixing in her chest

She was going to do it

"It is said that curiosity kills the cat but satisfaction brought it back" she said to herself

Late at night, despite the defeaning sound of bombs and the heavy thudding of tanks she set out to leave

She crawled down the high mountains in deep exhaustion and as she tried to reach out to a cliff, she missed her step and fell hard on the rocky ground

She blinked, her eyes snapping open. A wave of nausea washed over her as she saw them- these creatures, all horns and teeth

Faces contorted in expressions that could only be described as...well, terrifying

She slammed her eyes shut again, a cold sweat breaking out on her skin

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drum of solo in her chest

She could feel their gaze upon her, trying to figure her out. She was so different, so out of place

She was a creature from another world, landed in a nightmare

She was a prisoner of her own curiosity, trapped in a nightmare. She had always watched from above, wondering what it was like down there

Now, she'd never get to find out. Curiosity killed the cat, they said but satisfaction brought it back

But she'd never feel satisfied, only fear
