WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a 4-stanza poem, using the word ‘stretch’ in each stanza.

Perhaps you could use the repetition to shift the meaning of the word each time it is used, or to emphasise a theme.

A Stretch

Maybe it’s a stretch to say you like me A stretch to think that you’ll notice me A stretch to look at your sweater and think I’ll wear it someday Or maybe all these dreams Are worth something And it’s not a stretch at all Maybe your arms will hold onto mine and stretch far in the air as we laugh I know it’s a stretch to imagine these fantasies But maybe one day you’ll notice How much I reach for you Stretch my arms to their extent Trying to get you to notice me I know it’s a stretch But it’s one that keeps me happy 🩵
