Weighted In Gold
Autumn leaves dance from the sky
Drifting down, past her smile.
Precious white flurries land on my tongue.
I look over at her, making dove white angels with big, pearly smiles.
Slowly, staring at the screen, I move my hand slightly towards her’s,
And she looks down with a smile.
We dance in the night, covered in glittering lights,
She spins and she spins as the lights find her smile.
Gently I place the books on the shelves,
Carefully, she turns each page with a contagious smile.
I run my fingers through her thick greying hair
We light up the night, dancing, laughing, filled with smiling delight.
On a slow, scenic path, we walk and we talk,
She lights up the day with her radiant smile.
I turn off the lights holding her soft hand,
With comfort and joy we say good night and she falls right asleep still wearing that smile.
A bitter wind blows through,
She shivers and coughs,
I lean over the casket, eyes wet with draining rain,
And I kiss her good night.
I close my eyes, and imagine her face,
Running through fields of poppies somewhere,
Wearing a smile, so proud and so bold,
Wearing the smile she made out of gold.
