Abandoned Town

The waves crash off of the silver rocks at the bottom of the cliff, but aren’t heard by anyone but the silent birds waiting in anticipation.

The stormy horizon, promising rain, thunder and maybe even hail, was beautiful. The light blues, dark grays, and the shades in between all blended together. The clouds melted with the sky, as did the end of the sea. There was no distinct outline. No beginnings. No ends. The sky was a perfect blend of color.

An abandoned town lay in ruins on the edge of the island. The originally dark stone rocks now covered in vines and moss, crumbling more everyday from erosion. The roofs were no more, just as the furniture that used to sit in the small houses were now non-existent.

The cliff, high above the town, had the most life on it. Birds and a few squirrels were the only inhabitants, but there were plants everywhere, unlike down near the ruined town.

Soon, the rain would start to fall, the lightning strike, and the hail sting the earth. But, until that moment, it was total, and utter, peace.
