The Storm

There was a relief in feeling the storms approach,

The darkening sky drew closer,

The air was heavy and the world stood still,

As the daytime turned to night.

The raging heat of the last few days,

Was the hottest that they'd ever known,

Fires had started all over the place,

Too great for them to control.

The town came pouring out of their homes,

All looking up at the sky,

Tears of joy rolling down each face,

At last they could escape the heat.

Rumbling deep in the sky overhead,

The clouds now a deep dark grey,

The pitter and patter of the raindrops falling,

Everyone stood in the rain.

The storm got heavier, the wind picked up,

And everyone made it inside,

The crashes of thunder and lightning around,

A relief from the overhead pressure.

The storm raged on through the day and the night,

The temperature cooled all around,

And the townspeople feasted and toasted to life,

At last all the people were saved.
