WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a story about a wild bachelorette party beginning in media res.

'In media res' refers to starting a story at the chronological middle of the plot. What elements will you need to incorporate to ensure the plot still makes sense?

The Bachelorette Party

Broken glass.

Torn bridesmaids sashes.

Bloody plastic tiara.

A bachelorette party to remember.

The bride is dead.

No more wedding.

Each braidsmaid at the bachelorette party has secrets. A motive to kill the bride. But the real question is, who had the guts to do it?

Her older sister.

Her maid of honor.

Her best male friend.

Her coworker.

Her future sister in law.

Or…would’ve been her sister in law.

Now the bride is dead and they are all suspects.

OoOoO

_Twelve hours earlier_.

“Bonnie! Where is my charger?” The soon to be bride shouts, running around in a rush of white.

Holding out the missing charger, Bonnie playfully teases, “Where would you be without me?”

“Without a charger,” the bride answers flatly.

“And out a very organized sister. Don’t forget that one, Minnie,” she chastises.

Minnie pretends to think, bringing her finger to her chin. “Yeah, that too.” Bonnie gently pushes her like siblings do, carefully not to do it too hard. Can’t jostle the bride tiara sitting perfectly on her sister’s blonde curls.

“This party is just overnight at the cabin. I don’t know what you’re so worried about,” Bonnie says with a bit of a pointed look.

It’s their family’s cabin out in the middle of nowhere. They go there all the time, so they aren’t walking into anything new.

Minnie rolls her eyes in a way that Bonnie can’t tell is good natured or annoyed. “Because it’s my bachelorette party. You only get one.”

Bonnie shrugs, “Only if you stay married.”

The bride whacks her with her heavy bag, making her stumble quite a bit. “Hey! No jinxing me and my marriage that hasn’t happened yet. It’s bad luck!”

Strutting away in her white mini dress, she goes to wait in the car since Bonnie has to drive.

After all, the bride shouldn’t have to lift a finger for her wedding activities.

“Yeah, because your relationship hasn’t already been jinxed,” Bonnie mumbles.
