The darkness is a friend of mine

Unravaged by the hands of time.

Hes all around, he never leaves

I hear him whisper through the trees.

One morn I woke to a dark so bright,

A change that for so long, had been slight

Made me see what I could not see

Being blind made me feel free.

But my friend would not let me stray,

The darkness kept the light at bay.

I almost began to feel the fear

That others feel when he is near;

I called to him to guide me through

He said “do not worry, I’ll never leave you”.

But what, I said, if I asked you to?

You’d never ask, and I’ll never leave you.

What if I wanted to see the sun?

But here in the dark we have so much fun.

When was it last, I had a smile?

Well maybe it has veen a while.

I want to go, but I dont know why

But if we go I may die

Here there is no hurt or pain

But neither is their good to gain

Though unhurt, we were badly maimed.

And so we stepped into the dawn, forever changed…
