Where We All Want To Go

I ran. And I kept running. Running and running and running. I had started, the tears in my eyes had dried up, and the field had changed color. Wait a second, the grass had changed color! My eyes were playing tricks on me! It couldn’t be! I must have hit my head somewhere. I mean, I felt like I ran for hours, but it was only a couple of minutes.

A couple of minutes ago I ran out of the house, tears clogging my view, the sun on the horizon, waiting to meet a new day. I ran out onto the field trying to flee. I ran with no direction, no purpose. When I stopped I noticed the grass had changed purple! How was that possible? I turned around, and there was something there. A building, it looked like. It had been built with a checkered black and white brick pattern. I knew I was crazy, but I didn’t cared if I never went back. I approached the building, and peered inside. It had a staircase leading up and up and up, from the inside of the building came a pleasant welcoming aroma. You could hear the distant chirping of birds, and the music of nature. The air was warm and breezy. So peaceful and welcoming. I figured this must be wonderland. As I lifted one foot onto the bottom stair, a sound disturbed me. A ringing that cut off the sound of the birds. An alarm, wait, my alarm!

Suddenly, I woke up. Still laying inside my closet. I knew I had come back to reality, the cruel world was never escapable. I grabbed the closet door, knowing what waited for me on the other side. Wishing I could sleep forever. And I walked out. Not knowing if I would get to visit my own little world again.
