Lie

“You’ve caused me so much pain, yet the love I feel for you blinds me of it” said the coward who hid in his room, alone on his phone with his wife deep in sleep. Hereyes were closed, a peaceful sleep as he sexted and waited to see her curves.

“It’s only midnight” he texted back as a text came in with her in the mirror, naked and tall with a black leather thong and her nails painted a deep red like wine. It was then he felt aroused and alert, looking over to see his wife sleeping, her long blond hair down to her back, a peaceful sleep as he leaned his head back and took a deep breath, his hand now finding what shifted his legs.

It was then he heard a knock at the door and everything he had planned, now ice cold. “Shit” he whispered” and texted “I’ll call” and sat the phone down, his wife still sleeping as he threw the sheets over and sat up to look. He saw little fingers push the door open.

“Daddy” Casey said, holding her pillow tight in her arms.

“Whats the matter?” he whispered, making sure not to wake Beth as he opened the door and lifted her up, his suit case sitting next to the closet.

“There’s a monster in my closet” she said, her tired eyes closed as she took a big yawn.

“Let’s go see” he said as he carried her back and opened the door. He looked up and down and moved her clothes on the rack. “See, nothing” he said, then put her back in bed and pulled the blankets up tight. He kissed the closet, but left her night light on.

“Night daddy”she said, then grabbed her stuffed bear and curled up to sleep, her long blond hair just like her mothers. But her face was innocent, like her mother’s rose garden. Beautiful and soft, with thorns all along. She once pierced her finger and cried crocodile tears, but mother was there to wipe them away.

Matt went back into their room, when his wife was sitting up in bed. His eyes immediately looked for his phone, trying to hide the jolt of fear. There it was, clenched in her hand, her eyes narrowed down to a slither of hope.

“Dont” he said as she threw the sheets over and stood up with her robe.

“How fucking long?” she yelled when he quickly replied “Its not what you think” he said and tried to grab it but couldn't catch Beth as she slammed the door and ran downstairs, phone in hand as she grabbed her purse and went out to the car.

She started the car as he opened the door. “Beth, give me the phone, now” he said, but she turned the key and stepped out of the car.

For a brief second, he thought they would talk and she may settle down. But to his surprise, she said “get out!”, walked away and never looked back, his phone now broken, clenched in her hand until she turned and threw it directly at the front car window. A crack then formed and shattered her heart, but she didnt care as she looked up to see, little Casey at the window with tears.

Beth ran in as Matt said “fuck”, unable to retrieve his now broken phone. All he could see was a text had come in that said “Gotcha” and threw it away.

As he turned around to look at the house, there was his suit case on the front porch, lights were out and his best friend gone.
