POEM STARTER
Submitted by Elowyn Abernathy
Write an ode, but make it sarcastic.
An ode is a poem that normally focuses on a subject in a positive and glorifying light. Think about how you'll make the tone obviously sarcastic.
The Ode
Here is an ode
To these dear small objects.
Oh how you lighten my load!
I love your dear, white, round concepts.
To that dear tiny, pale oval,
Split in half with a thin line,
But let me make you a proposal:
You let me keep my sanity ‘cause it’s MINE!
To that dear little shape!
You are my favourite best friend,
You give me some escape,
And I will loathe you to the very end.
To that dear monsterous creature,
My constant companion,
Tell all my friends, “you can’t reach her.”
But it’s you who I want to abandon.
To this pretty pale disaster,
How lovely you are
As a friend, as a enemy, but you aren’t my master,
My mind and body, I can’t allow you to mar.
So as much as I love you,
I’m afraid this is goodbye.
Yet I know you are an addict too,
So I’m sure this it not goodbye,
But only farewell.
