The Piano

I remember walking on the beach with my girl. The sand lapped at our toes making us content with its warmth. We were taking in all the noises of the waves crashing on the jagged shore, the gulls calling over their newest feat, and gentle crabs swaying to their own positive vibe.

We didn’t think too much of it. We were exploring and came across it. It was a Victorian grand piano. We didn’t know how it got there or why it was there. The sides were carved with beautiful vines and trees. The previous owner had not treated it very well. It’s keys are decrepit and overgrown with mold.

Was this piano in the middle of the ocean? Our minds go a little mad thinking of what this instrument might have gone through. We consider all possibilities.

The biggest surprise comes when we open it up. We gingerly open it. A large shark greets us, its newest meal in its teeth. It greets us with its terrifying smile. That was before the colors of the beautiful sunset were extinguished.
