Write a story where the written word, in any form, is outlawed.
Rather than focusing on why text is outlawed, try to build a story that highlights one aspect of this world. Think about how often we see words written down, and how the world would look without them.
Pencils
That’s when they saw me
With a pencil in my hand
Because how dare I write with lead
And not some fancy man made pen
I want to draw with the pencil
With the ability to erase
But don’t you dare try to hide your face
What is written can not be undone
This was to protect the little ones
They called me a criminal
And say I commit crimes
If only I had a little bit of time
To draw with the pencil
With the ability to erase
I just wanted to remove my god forsaken face.
