Diamonds Of The Darkness
She told herself
“That’s gonna be you one day”
Shinning so bright
Everyone who had refused to look
Would be amazed at her brightness
“They’d wish they didn’t give you up”
She’d whisper to herself as she lay on her roof
And it would be true
They’d all finally see
What they’d been missing out on
Because this girl
This shy, weird and out of place girl
Would finally be where she was meant to be
“You’ll have it all”
She’d murmur as she remembered regrets from the past
And she would
All those regrets would become memories
And those memories would never be erased
They’d be remembered forever
“You live forever”
She’d say
And it was true
She’d live forever
In the hearts of those who truly cared
In the souls of those who’d seen her
Before she’d shined in the darkness
“You’ll finally be free”
She’d mumbled as she looked over the edge of her roof
And she was
Finally free
When she took a leap
And fell
Deep into the darkened sky
“The stars”
She’d told everyone
Everyone who’d never listened
“Are where I’m gonna end up”
But what they didn’t know was
This girl before them
Shy, worthless, nothing
Was done with life
So she jumped
Off her roof
“I’m finally done, I’m finally free”
She’d thought
Tears dried on her cheeks
As she looked at the diamonds of the night
The stars were what she liked most about the sky
Then . . .
They started . . .
To fall
