STORY STARTER

One day, an author wakes up in his own fantasy horror story. Fortunately, he knows exactly how to defeat the horrible entity lurking in this realm. Unfortunately…

A CRACK IN THE WALL

It was all too real to be a dream. There I was, in a room on the second floor of a place called Grimalda's Tavern and Inn. I was looking out on a peaceful sunrise in the sky, and the looming shadow of a tall black wall. It was Taller than anyone could climb. It was Taller than the tallest buildings. Even birds could not fly high enough to cross it. I knew what it was the second I saw it, because I had written it, and what comes next.

The wall was there, not to contain us, but to contain something from all basis of fear on its other side. The evil inside had no name, but most described it as pure chaos or pandemonium. It was not some intellegent speaking giant, or a tenticled abomination. It was more like a storm of television static that consumed and absorbed everything it touched. It was powerful enough to spread and undo the entire realm, I had remembered from my story. In fact in the story... It pretty much had done just that.

A sudden realization of grim reality set in my head. If this was indeed my story, and I was really here... what part of the story was it? I had known how the chaos was defeated, eventually. But in the story, there was an adventerer by the name of Lawson who was on his way to get the 'Light of Order' a special amulet from the gods that would allow him to push back the chaos. But I knew that the chaos got out, long before he finished his quest. . . And here I was looking at the wall that was containing it.

In serious need of answers now, I rushed out of the room and out the tavern door. Despite never actually being in my own world before, I still knew EXACTLY where everything was down to every last detail. It was like this place had been my home, even though I had never been there really. The tavern was mostly empty, just a maiden sweeping up from the night before and she paid me no mind. Then I rushed down the road towards the wall. It was so impressive to look upon, a feat of almost perfect engineering. The seams between the onyx stone were not even wide enough to catch a fingernail on.

All of my concerns were proved the second I saw the crack in the wall. There was a terrible mind numbing hissing coming from it. I remembered it was the sound of the chaos, enough to drive a man insane if he listened for too long. And I could see the chaos itself leaking through as if a fan was pushing it from the other side. It was a tiny amount that was dissapating fast... but it was there.

If I had the 'Light of Order' I could repair the wall in minutes, but it was clear across the realm, in the posession of a nasty fellow named Crait, and if the wall was cracked like this... that meant Lawson had already started his journey, and that the wall could give out any day now.

A local guard walked up to me, patrolling the peremeter of the wall. "Enough of that stuff gets through, it will kill us all."

That was a line I had written! I had written this whole scene, I suddenly remembered. Trying to recall the details of the scene, my line in the conversation came out of me from subconscious instinct. "We need more time. Lawson... needs more time." Was my line.

. . . And then it hit me as the world erupted around us. The ground began to shake, the hissing got louder. The wall was beginning to shift and sway, pieces of it from high up raining down like meteors.

I knew exactly where we were in my story now, and I knew we were doomed.

I looked down at how I was dressed... In farmer's clothing, brown drabs. . . I was a character named "Hansel". Hansel was the first character to die from the chaos.

The guard shuddered and tried to flee, but I knew it was hopeless. You couldn't outrun this. So I did the next best thing... I acted out my part.

I stood watching the wall open up, revealing the chaos. I watched it move towards me... past me, grinding everything up in its torrent of noise, and erasing everything... Erasing me!

Damn, I wish I had gotten to play Lawson. . . Damn...
