Sakahara

My name is Sakahara, I live in a sheep-herding society, we live in tents on a big grassland full of our livestocks. I have a childhood sweetheart, we talked about marriage already, I just need to wait for him to come and marry me. He was the top student and got to study abroad in another state, he promised once he finish his studies he is gonna come and marry me. I waited patiently for 9 months, growing more and more anxious. My parents are saying that I have to get married fast, and that I should not just wait for someone’s promise. I argued hard with them, I wish he can come already.

My parents forcefully set up a marriage between me and a general. The general gave them a lot of money and promised to take care of me. They gladly accepted the money and would not take back their words no matter how I begged them.

Quickly my wedding day came, I have only known my husband for one day and we are getting married already. I wore all red and him too on our wedding day, I had imagined me wearing red getting married to my childhood sweetheart before, now I know there is no going back, we are never be able to marry or meet one another. My parents knew about our romance so they purposely told my husband to take me to another state after we get married and he gladly accepted.

We moved to another state, I would never be able to see him again. My parents had written me letters saying that he had came back and married another girl. I was heartbroken, now there is nothing that I can hope for anymore.

Childhood sweetheart’s pov

“Mr and Mrs. Fallya, I had came here for my promise to marry Sakahara.” The couple looked at one another in astonishment, they couldn’t believe Jakarta had came back. They replied, “I am so sorry, Sakahara fell in love with someone else and married him.” Jakarta could not believe his eyes and said, “Really?! Can you tell me where she is?” The couple said, “I am sorry, she told us she does not want to see you ever, you may leave.”

Jakarta was kicked out of their tent, he was sad and heartbroken right now. Sakahara is the only girl he had ever loved. He could not understand why she went for someone else, probably because I let her wait too long, he thought.

Jakarta never married anyone and lived until his death alone.
