Spooky Money
I never felt poor until I entered this house
Where in the shadows
Lurked a scary air
Of superiority
A person of the people
I walked into this mansion
Resentful that this wealth
Isn’t available to the majority
More rooms than they could count
Filled not with furniture
But with cobwebs, egos and secrets
In each room
You could see your breath
In the chill
I thought I was above it all
But then all the sudden
The garishness became glamor
That chair is guilded!
That portrait is grand!
Ascend the social ladder
I will!
Oh shoot
I thought I was stronger than this
With wealth I never thought I’d get
Obsessed
But once the beauty of money was exposed
You know how it goes
I didn’t just buy into it
I was possessed
