Fangs And Claws

Emily packed her bag in the silence of the late night. The moon was a half moon and she had to get out tonight. She had to find out what was the truth despite knowing the risks. She tiptoed out of the great cabin making sure not to make a sound. Even the slightest noise would tip of the guards and while she could outrun all of them she didn’t fancy her fathers reaction when she would have to return.

Emily was the daughter of the leader Northern Alpha, making her the werewolf princess. Not that she cared for it much. She was one the 7th child out of 12. Which meant her six older siblings were the ones who were the only ones with leadership roles. Whereas she was just an asset to give away when it came to forming marriage alliances with the other packs. Not that anyone on her family had ever suggested it, but she always heard the whispers of the generals. Especially in this time of war they were desperate for more allies.

Emily’s pack had been at war for five years against the Vampire kingdom Sezaro. Vampires and werewolves had always been mortal enemies, so it was only natural that the two kingdoms would remain feuding for centuries. Still she risked coming to the border where she could get taken hostage easily. Where the protection of her father and siblings were thin. Yet she had too, she had to take that risk when her heart was on the line.

She had finally reached her destination, a small pond in the middle of the forest which connected the two kingdoms. A place she had been coming to for 10 years when she had by accidently come across it while getting lost at 7. She was breathing hard and waited hoping that he would show up. After a minute a boy of the same age appeared. He had raven black hair and grey eyes that resembled stormy clouds. “You shouldn’t be here”, he said while playing playing with a nearby branch. Emily ran up to him pressing him against the tree by his neck. “Tell me it’s not true. Tell me you aren’t a prince of Sezaro. Tell me that it can’t be and that your just a normal citizen”. Emily couldn’t help the desperation that was leaking out of her mouth. Severin the name of the boy who was currently pinned against the tree looked as emotionless as usual. “I won’t lie to you”, he said to Emily. Emily released her pressure a little which gave Severin the opportunity to now escape out of her grasp. He then grabbed her hand and held it to himself. “I am the third prince Severin Aures Sezaro”, he sighed and looked into her eyes. “And your the 7th princess Emily Lunaris”. Emily pulled away, he had known who she really was. “How long have you known who I am”, she asked him. “Since the beginning”, he answered. Emily flinched at that, how could she have been so naive. She had ignored all the words of her family of her ancestors. She had recklessly met up with a vampire believing him to be an orphan boy. And yet he was not just her enemy, he was the very person who her family was fighting a war against. “So are you going to kill me now?”, she asked in a defeated voice. “Why would you think that?”, Severin asked in a slightly angry voice. “Isn’t it obvious, I’m your enemy. My death would only benefit your side”. Emily said in a shaky voice. “Then why don’t you howl and call your pack to come and kill me”. Emily felt startled by his words, “why would I…” but Severin interrupted, “then why would I, if I had wanted to do that I wouldn’t have waited ten years”. Emily’s heart began to race, “Our families are enemies”, she said. “So”, Severin responded. “We could be named as traitors”, Emily said. Severin stepped closer to her. “So”, he again responded. “We can’t meet each other again”, Emily said looking into his cold eyes. “Is that what you want?”, he asked. “Of course not, but we can’t go against our fates”, she said. Severin was now so close to her that only a slice of paper could’ve squeezed through them. “Dam Fate, tell me you hate me. Tell me that you don’t feel the same way I do. Slap me and run away”, Severin said. Every word making and breaking her heart. Yet she did not move. When he pressed his lips against hers she gave in to everything. She was already trapped and he was too. She clung onto him and she wished he could kill her almost more than she wished she could kill him. They were already too far gone. A werewolf princess and a vampire prince were kissing under the half moon unprepared for what their feelings would force them to sacrifice.
