Before You Fly
(This reads to me like a folk song)
As the sun melts the blues of today
And the fire of the sunset burns away
Twenty-four hours of time done and spent
I blink, and suddenly the day’s gone and went
Inky night approaches by and by
Sometimes you’ve got to lose your footing to fly
28,000 more will come
Just counting down until I’m home
Yet the midnight sits so bleak and dreary
And every night my bones get more weary
And each calendar day rips off in turn
Maybe some day my sorry soul will learn
The morn’ approaches by and by
Sometimes you’ve got to lose your footing to fly
The clock says I ha’nt got much time left
If I don’t change my hasty ways of stress
Ever so often I fall back down
But I’ll get back up and brush off the ground
So I say once more if I have some sense
Someday the weather will bring effulgence
The day hath come, filled the sky
Sometimes you’ve got to lose your footing to fly
Sometimes you’ve got to lose your footing to fly
