WRITING OBSTACLE
Submitted by Maranda Quinn
Show a powerful emotion – love, grief, rage - in a quiet, everyday moment.
Instead of writing a dramatic and drawn out scene, think about how subtle actions and sensory details can carry the weight of the feeling.
Tulips
The paved street is empty as I walk slowly through the morning mist. The sun is just starting to rise, casting the stone a golden gleam.
I inhale the fresh scents of lavender and rose growing on the corners of the street, swaying in the gentle breeze.
Suddenly a heavy feeling settles on my chest, like a stone resting its weight on my heart. The tulips in the cafe window bring me this feeling of _grief_.
I stare at the vibrant tulips for a moment and then continue my walk, but that feeling of grief still settles within me.
She always loved tulips.
