The Revelation

I am trapped in a debilitating whirlwind,

Barely functioning, accepting my fate,

Waiting to die a slow death,

In my hopeless state.

All of a sudden, a light comes into view,

Getting closer, brighter, warmer.

I feel a sense of deep fascination with it,

As it seems to be luring me out of this torture.

The light calls out to me, “do not be afraid,

“For I have the answers that you seek.

“You see, fulfillment can only be achieved

“When _you_ can embrace being unique.”

I slip further into the darkness,

Unsure about what that future could hold.

I wondered what would be better:

Being prey or being bold?

As I spun further into the dark abyss,

I decided to be brave and strong.

I pushed myself up into the light

And discovered that I had a place all along.

I could finally be myself, carefree and happy.

Sounding off judgment gave me a glorious sensation.

The world was lucky to have a girl like me.

This was my revelation.
